50 X 50 MM (2 X2') MIGHTY LUMBER is 100% recycled plastic lumber used as decking joists to build a subframe to support your decking.
Unlike timber joists, they will not rot and can be used directly on flat solid ground.
At only 50 mm high these are ideal if you need your decking area to be as low as possible to the ground.
These 50x50 joists need supports at least every 300 mm for them to be raised off the ground and support the decking sufficiently.
The next height up is 95 mm so if you do need the top of the joists to be higher than 50 mm but lower than 95 mm you can use cradles or pedestals to raise your subframe higher, however because they are not structural, each joist would need support every 400 mm.
Quantities
If you are using these to create a composite decking subframe , your decking will need joist support every 300 mm, double joists when boards are meeting end to end and of course all around the edge so add all these up to get your total linear metres, then divide by 3.6 and round up. If you are installing Bullnose Edge Boards along decking board ends you will also need additional joist runs to support the grooved side.
If you are raising your subframe off the ground you will also need additional lengths between joists, known as noggins, at least every 1000 mm.

Installation
Your decking subframe is the most important part of your composite decking installation as it will fail if not supported sufficiently (every 300 mm) and if there is not enough airflow for moisture to escape from under the subframe.
Use our Structural Hexhead Screws to build a solid structural subframe.
